DRINKING ALCOHOL/ INTOXICANT
Drinks which are made from grape juice, honey, corn, o, corn, or barley by the process of fermenting them until they became alcoholic are haram to drink them. Allah has prohibited it in measured stages. FIRST, He made it clear to society that the harm of drinking wine is greater than its benefit in Surah al-Baqarah (2:219); next, He told them not to come to salat while intoxicated in Surah al-Nisa’ (4:43); and finally, He revealed the verse in Surah al-Maidah which prohibited it totally and decisively: “O you who believe! Truly, intoxicants and gambling and divination by arrows are an abomination of Satan’s doing: avoid it in order that you may be successful. Assuredly Satan desires to sow enmity and hatred among you with intoxicants and gambling, and to hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from salat. Will you not then abstain? (5:90-91)
Thousands of years after wine and other alcoholic beverages had become an integral part of many culture’s meal, celebrations and religious ceremonies. In Malaysia, nowadays, alcoholic beverage is not strange thing in celebration any ceremonies. People especially Muslim do not feel guilty and ashamed when they drink alcohol openly even they know that thing is prohibited in law of Islam. Some of them including teenagers try to drink alcohol to release their tension. Besides that, teenagers also become alcoholics maybe because they learn harmful drinking behaviour from their parents or maybe because culture influences from people from certain religious, ethics or socioeconomic backgrounds. Others are following their friends to do so because for them, they look cool when they can drink alcohol without drunk.

This thing becomes serious when some rich people make mini bars in their home to store alcohol and wine for serve to their non-Muslim friends. For them, they just follow trend particularly from western. They feel proud when doing like that and do not care about law of Islam. Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) cursed ten categories of people saying: Truly, Allah has cursed khamr and has cursed the one who produces it, the one for whom it is produced, the one who drinks it, the one who serve it, the one who carries it, the one for whom it is carried, the one who sells it, the one who earns from the sale of it, the one who buys it, and the one for whom it is bought.

How to abolish this behaviour in teenagers’ life? Some people especially Muslim teenagers, they are lack of knowledge of Islam. That why they do not practice the characteristics of ‘Ibadur Rahman in their life. So, they should understand and learn how to build that characteristic. In addition, they can develop their fear to Allah’s punishment by attend motivation and talk programs. People who know more about Islam, for example, teachers and family members should always guide them by giving them advice and encourage them to do good thing for instance, do charity activities. This can avoid them from pride while walking and always be gentleness and good words and behaviour. They also must to stay away from drinking parties or gatherings at which this kind or drinks are served. They must balance in spending on themselves, on their family and others by avoid this unbeneficial behaviour. Last but not least, government must work hard to abolish alcohol by combating and eradicating it. The government should stand up and play their role in prohibiting alcohol and in blocking all avenues which lead to drinking.
